Merel builds theatrical installations and interventions in the public space. Her work is site-specific and the audience, knowingly and unknowingly, participates in various ways being actively present and co-creating with the artist.
HOW TO START A MOVEMENT is the latest work of Merel Smitt in which she is setting up a daily life practice of interventions and actions. She engages in these actions with people she has yet to meet. Together they disrupt the public space and build a database of actions that can be passed on to the next person.
