Neem een Omweg (Take a Detour) is a site specific walking route composed of scores, set in a part of Rotterdam known for its separation between living and working environments.
On construction boards, in the middle of a pond, on façades and on the street, she has placed quirky invitations and instructions together with Studio Detour. Take your own detour along these provocative interventions that invite you to experience the surroundings in a completely new way.
The poetic, social and activist instructions each encourage reflection or action. You can walk the entire route, but you can also choose to visit the areas separately or simply select a few places that spark your curiosity.

In her work, artist Merel Smitt often uses prompts: short invitations or instructions that encourage you to experience a place, situation or system in a new way. The prompts in the landscape function as instructions that invite you to look, listen and move differently. Sometimes poetic, sometimes activist, sometimes social or spatial.
